Intake Process
HVLP is here to help if we can. There are three ways to get help.
- By calling HVLP’s intake line at (713)228-0732
When you call the intake line, please be prepared to wait. We receive over 20,000 calls
annually and often times the wait can be ten minutes or longer. Once an intake specialist
comes on the line to assist you, she will ask you a number of questions relating to your
family status, type of income, amount of income, and other such questions that will help
us determine if you are eligible for our services or if you would be bettered served by
another legal service provider in our area. If you are deemed eligible for our services,
you will be asked to submit additional information and will be scheduled for an appointment
in our offices within a 60 day period.
- By attending a legal advice clinic
On a monthly basis, HVLP hosts a clinic on the first Saturday of each month in
rotating sections of the city. These clinics begin at 9:30a.m. and end promptly
at 11:30a.m. We are able to assist approximately 100 clients so it is best to
arrive early. If seen, you will be able to speak directly to an attorney about
your situation. If you are in need of further assistance, you may be referred to
HVLP for an appointment, be referred to other legal services providers in the
community, or referred to the Houston Lawyer Referral Service.
- By sending an email to info@hvlp.org
Our intake specialists regularly respond to e-mails sent to our main e-mail address.
If you have an issue related to Hurricane Ike please send an e-mail to
ikehelp@hvlp.org. If your issue is something
we can assist you with, an intake specialist will ask you a number of questions relating to
your family status, type of income, amount of income and other questions that will help us
determine if you are eligible for our services or if you would be better served by another
legal service provider in our area. If you are deemed eligible for our services, you will
be asked to submit additional information and will be scheduled an appointment within a
60 day period.
